Our mission is to help people build wealth with confidence so they can enjoy life, today and tomorrow. To do this in a way that serves our community of over 850,000 customers, our team needs to be representative of our customers. After all, diversity drives innovation.
We also believe that Moneybox should be a safe space where you’re able to bring your full self to work.
Our Commitments
- We’ll empower and encourage each other to overcome the lines that divide us in wider society
- We commit ourselves to listening, learning, teaching and supporting each other so that everyone can have a voice and a place within Moneybox
We’ve taken a multi-layered approach to fulfil our commitments. Here’s how we’re going to do it.
Inclusion Steering Committee
The Inclusion Steering Committee is open to everyone at Moneybox, as we believe that all voices should have the opportunity to be heard. The Committee meets virtually once a quarter (with an invite sent to all employees) to discuss inclusion initiatives from across the company.
The Committee has six main focus areas:
- Safe space: creating and maintaining a culture where team members can address concerns and thoughts without being judged
- Education: making sure all team members understand inclusion and diversity, its importance and how we can learn to be more empathetic internally and externally
- Diversity in hiring: ensuring our hiring process promotes diversity and is free from bias
- Outreach: exploring schemes with the goal of creating opportunities for people from disadvantaged backgrounds and minority groups
- Communications: speaking internally and externally about inclusion in line with our communications framework
- Inclusive products: creating products that appeal to and serve a broad customer base
Teams provide updates on diversity and inclusion initiatives happening in their area at Committee meetings, and the Inclusion Committee Task Force (see below) give updates on company-wide initiatives. There’s always the opportunity for colleagues to ask questions and show support too!
A couple of initiatives that have been showcased at steering meetings include:
- Our ongoing relationships with CodeFirstGirls, SheCanCode and GirlCode. These partnerships are helping us to promote better gender diversity in our Tech teams.
- The Design team has given a demo of our dark mode screens, which make our app more accessible by making text easier to read.
Inclusion Committee Task Force
The task force is made up of members from our People team, plus our COO. The task force aims to assign actions to any feedback from the Steering Committee, enact change and communicate initiatives back to the business.
Some of the suggestions that the task force have put into place in the past 12 months include:
- Lunch and Learns: talks from external speakers on various topics including Neurodiversity at work, LGBTQIA+ history, Black History month, Mental Health awareness and Islamic finance
- Pronouns: all team members are now able to add their pronouns to their Slack profile
- Gender neutral job postings: we’ve taken steps to ensure that the language we use in our job postings is inclusive to all candidates
- Confidential reporting form: a tool available to all team members to use if they witness an example of bias or non-inclusive behaviour in the workplace. The People & Culture team has a process in place to assess appropriate next steps based on the report
Moneybox Matters: Inclusion Survey
In 2022, the task force launched a Moneybox Matters: Inclusion Survey which was open to everyone at Moneybox. Team members were asked to provide as much diversity data on themselves as they felt comfortable giving.
The purpose of this was to assess how our team member breakdown compares to UK diversity stats. The results of the survey have helped the task force to set tangible goals and identify actions that will have the greatest impact for colleagues. Going forward, the survey will be sent out on an annual basis so we can track our progress.
Communities
We want to help people with common interests, beliefs and ideas come together and have a dedicated space to share their experiences if they wish.
We have an #inclusion Slack channel where we celebrate dates of significance that matter to our colleagues by highlighting key information and encouraging people to share how they are celebrating.
We know that it’s important to be able to share experiences and feel connected, this is why we support our employee resource groups. This includes Moneybox subsidising quarterly socials and ensuring our resource groups have a voice on key DE&I initiatives. We want to listen and empower our resource groups to be honest as we know this is key to creating an inclusive and equitable experience for all.
